We Want To Be Just Like You, Daddy!

"...he who works for the honor of the
One who sent him is a man of truth..."
John 7:18
"The man of integrity walks securely..."
Proverbs 10:9
"...love the LORD your God, walk in all His ways, to obey His commands, to hold fast to Him and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul."
Joshua 22:5
Jim - Happy Father's Day!
We love you deeply.
We honor you in our hearts always.
We respect you instrinsically.
You are the best daddy our children could have.
As I watched them last night both snuggled up on your lap as we watched a movie, I thought "That's just how it should be." Our cherubs snuggled up on daddy's lap. Safe, secure, content.
Thank you for your love and devotion to God, to His truth and to us.
Happy Father's Day!
I Want To Be Just Like You - by Phillips, Craig & Dean
He climbs in my lap for a goodnight hug
He calls me Dad and I call him Bub
With his faded old pillow and a bear named Pooh
He snuggles up close and says, "I want to be like you"
I tuck him in bed and I kiss him goodnight
Trippin' over the toys as I turn out the light
And I whisper a prayer that someday he'll see
He's got a father in God 'cause he's seen Jesus in me
Lord, I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be just like me
I want to be a holy example
For his innocent eyes to see
Help me be a living Bible, Lord
That my little boy can read
I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be like me
Got to admit I've got so far to go
Make so many mistakes and I'm sure that You know
Sometimes it seems no matter how hard I try
With all the pressures in life I just can't get it all right
But I'm trying so hard to learn from the best
Being patient and kind, filled with Your tenderness
'Cause I know that he'll learn from the things that he sees
And the Jesus he finds will be the Jesus in me
Right now from where he stands I may seem mighty tall
But it's only 'cause I'm learning from the best Father of them all

Mark Harris - Find Your Wings
It's only for a moment you are mine to hold
The plans that heaven has for you will all too soon unfold
So many different prayers I'll pray for all that you might do
But most of all I'll want to know
you're walking in the truth
And If I never told you I want you to know
As I watch you grow
I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings
May passion be the wind
That leads you through your days
And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way
May there be many moments that make your life so sweet
Oh, but more than memories
It's not living if you don't reach for the sky
I'll have tears as you take off but I'll cheer as you fly
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!"
1 John 3:1

More From My Marriage Counselor

"His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness." 2 Peter 1:3

God's Word, His precepts and statutes are our counselors. "Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors." (Psalm 119:24) Drinking in His Word every day is essential in our lives and vital in our marriages. God has given us His Holy Spirit as our Counselor to teach us and remind us of His Word. "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." John 14:26

The key verse above from 2 Peter 1:3 assures us that His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge or Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through His Word and His Spirit, He has fully equipped us to live a life of godliness. "....give me only my daily bread." (Proverbs 30:8) As we daily yield our hearts to His will and His word, His divine power gives us everything we need for life and godliness....including in our marriage. Everything we need. I find that amazing.

Treasure Verse Tuesday - Establish & Accomplish

"LORD, You establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished You have done for us. O LORD, our God...Your name alone do we honor." Isaiah 26:12-13

"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands."
Psalm 90:17

Promise Your Friend You Will Never Dishonor Her

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
Ephesians 4:29-32

Almost two years ago, I read a beautiful post on my friend Lysa's blog that impressed my heart deeply. Every day, sometimes several times a day, the Lord has brought this to my mind. He has used it to refine me, purify me, convict me and encourage me. I am so thankful.

Lysa wrote this post titled "Refusing to Gossip". In it, she shared this beautiful gift she received from her friend and executive assistant, Holly. I consider Holly a friend, too. She is a sweetheart (and a fellow Pennsylvania native!), and I know she is a treasure beyond words to Lysa. Here is a snippet from Lysa's post:

"One day Holly gave me a unique gift that made my heart feel forever safe with her. Though it wasn’t costly to her, it wound up being priceless to me. She committed to me that she would never say anything dishonoring about me ever. It was actually more than just a commitment to me, it was a covenant promise she’d made with God. I can’t even express what peace this brought to my heart. It’s not that I feared my other friends were gossiping about me. I did not. And I can’t say that my other friends wouldn’t make this same promise. They probably would. But Holly verbalized this commitment in a very bold way. A way that has defined our friendship and built a beautiful trust that is rare between women."

I just love how Holly "verbalized this commitment in a very bold way". While I believe God has given me some precious friends who would never dishonor me, I love how Holly verbalized that to Lysa. I have made the same covenant with the Lord as a gift for some precious friendships with which He has blessed me. My heart is thankful and reverent before Him for the friends He has given me. "...let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe..." Hebrews 12:28

Have you said something to dishonor a friend? Or have you dishonored a friend by NOT speaking up on their behalf when you could have? Has your body language (rolling eyes, etc.) dishonored a friend? Ask for forgiveness from that friend. Make a covenant before the Lord and verbalize it boldly to your friend(s). Your covenant before the Lord and priceless gift to your friend will build "a beautiful trust that is rare between women."

Daily the Lord uses Holly's beautiful expression of love, loyalty and friendship in my life. Daily. I am encouraged, challenged and convicted. Thank you, Holly! I pray HE blesses you to full and overflowing! Your obedience has touched my life in ways I'll never be able to express. Love you!

Lord, one of the purest ways I can honor You is by not dishonoring one of Your children.

Merciful Rain Falls Over The Children

Gabrielle - covered by the mercy of God and her friends.
(Pictured left to right:
Ysabelle, Emily and Anjali covering Gabrielle in mercy.
Gabrielle is in front bowing before God.)

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6:36

Gabrielle recently had her dance recital at school. All of the dances are liturgical and worshipful in nature. This year, Gabrielle's class danced to "Merciful Rain" by Ffh. I could not find the song on PlayList to accompany this post, but you can here the song here:

The lyrics to Merciful Rain are at the end of this post. The song is so beautiful. Tears streamed down my face as I listened to the song and watched these precious girls dance together worshipping God for His mercy. As a mom, I prayed that, just as they did in the dance, they would cover one another in God's mercy throughout their lives and friendships. How beautiful it was for one of Gabrielle's dearest friends, Emily, to cover Gabrielle with mercy. It took my breath away, hushed my heart and raised my hands to God. Emily is a sweetheart of a girlfriend to Gabrielle. How it touched this momma's heart that she covers Gabrielle with mercy. May it always be so. May they both cover one another with His pure mercy and grace.

How beautiful was it for us to see Emily covering Gabrielle with mercy.

Read these words to "Merciful Rain". So beautiful! They have become a prayer for our cherubs.

Merciful Rain (by Ffh)

Let the Holy Spirit come over you now
As the healing rain falls from the clouds
There is nothing you can do to deserve it
You don't have to earn His love
Let the rain fall from above
Merciful rain falls over the children
Merciful rain falls over the children
Merciful rain falls over the children of God
Over the children of God
Merciful rain falls
See the Holy Dove descending over you now
Feel the Living Water cleansing your soul
In the name of Jesus you have been forgiven
You have been redeemed forever
Fix your eyes on Heaven

Confession: I Need A Marriage Counselor

"Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors."
Psalm 119:24 NIV

"I will keep Your law continually, forever and ever [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it]. And I will walk at liberty and at ease, for I have sought and inquired for [and desperately required] Your precepts." Psalm 119:44-45 AMP

Meeting with my Counselor on a daily basis is key to all relationships in my life, especially my marriage. Meeting with our Bridegroom in God's Word every day is not optional, it is imperative. "I delight in Your decrees; I will not neglect Your word." Psalm 119:16

I need and require His Word and the life and wisdom that comes it. "You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word]." Psalm 27:8 (AMP)
