I Still Do, Honey! Happy 18th Anniversary!

"You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you forever." Psalm 45:2

Today, Jim and I celebrate our 18th anniversary!
We thank the Lord for His perfect love and faithfulness. Anchored in Him, our foundation is strong and we are secure. My life's testimony is that of God's grace and mercy. My husband and our children are gifts from God. Gifts of His grace and mercy. My heart is so thankful.

"...let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe..."
Hebrews 12:18

Jim, I love you deeply. I respect you intrinsically.
I still do...and always will.

"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."
Phil. 2:1-5

There's Only One Perfect Person In This Marriage

And it isn't me! And, while he's a wonderful husband, it isn't my husband either.

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecc. 4:12

Our Third Strand -- Jesus. He is the only Perfection in our marriage. "He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He." Deut. 32:4 He is the rock of our lives and our marriage. His works are perfect, though we may not always understand them at the time. His ways are just. He does no wrong. I do wrong. My husband does wrong. Yet, as we abide in the Lord daily, drinking from His Word and yielding to His Spirit, the Perfect One rights our wrongs. He cleanses us and makes us holy.

My Children Arise and Call Me...MOM!

"Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her..."
Proverbs 31:28

Yep, that's what they call me - MOM. And boy do they call me! "Mom, I need something." "Mom, he is bothering me." "Mom, she is not helping clean up." "Mom, the dog just threw up." "Mom, what's for dinner?" "Mom.........!!!!!!"

And honestly, I love it. While the frustrations and challenges of motherhood can seemingly throw me over the edge at moments, my heart is so humbled and thankful that God has given us children - a heritage and reward from Him. Wow. And wow again. "Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from Him." (Psalm 127:3)

Sometimes in the evening when we are reading the Kids Day by Day Bible with them before bedtime, I will pause and let them fill in the blank of a verse if I think they know the scripture. On April 22, our chapters in the Kids Daily Bible that evening were Proverbs 30 and 31. When I got to verse 28 of Proverbs 31, I read "Her children arise and call her...." (pausing for the word "blessed" from my cherubs). It was quiet for a moment and then Joshua said, "Her children arise and call her mom!" Yes, they do. They call me mom. And I know myself that I am one blessed woman. A blessed wife. A blessed mom. Thank you, Lord.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and girlfriends! I love you! And I am so thankful and dependent on the truth that "He gently leads those who have young"!

"He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young."
Isaiah 40:11

Don't Ignore The Warning Signs!

"But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself." Ezekiel 3:21

A burning smell permeated the air, and the house was filling with smoke. Our sweet bed-time rituals with the cherubs were abruptly interrupted when smoke began pouring out of a light fixture. Though the light fixture itself was on the upstairs ceiling in the hallway between the cherubs' bedrooms, the wires were burning in the attic and we couldn't see if there were open flames.

The operator at the 9-1-1 call center instructed me to get our children and ourselves out of the house immediately. Our cherubs responded so amazingly to this emergency and promptly exited the house with our dog Holly. They walked quickly to our neighbor's home for safe shelter. I moved the cars out of the garage and down the street while our neighbor made sure there was a clear path to the fire hydrant in front of our home.

Our Littlest Lamb Is 8 Today!

"He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart..."
Isaiah 40:11

Our sweet Gabrielle turns 8 today! We are excited to celebrate her life today. One of the things we love most about Gabrielle is that she loves God's Word. She recently graduated from "Sparks" in a local Awana program. She has memorized lots of scripture. She loves our morning devotion time when I share one scripture with the cherubs for the day. She looks forward each evening to our bed-time daily reading of the "Kids Day by Day Chronological One-Year Bible". And by His grace and Spirit, she gets it. She connects scriptures together. It makes sense to her. She loves God's Word. May it always be so. "Then He opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures..." Luke 24:45

One evening last week as we were reading the Kids Day by Day Bible, we were reading Proverbs 30 where verse 30 reads: "...a lion, mighty among beasts who retreats before nothing...". I paused after reading that verse and said to our cherubs, "Mommy prays you are strong in the Lord like a mighty lion." My heart was that they are strong in the Lord, standing up for His truth and retreating before nothing when it comes to standing firm in and for Him.

After I said that, Gabrielle said, "Oh Mommy, I just want to be a lamb. God is the Lion. He is strong and He protects me. I just want to be His lamb." Well, hush this mama's heart. Tears filled my eyes as I kissed her head, "Yes, honey, I just want you to be be His lamb, too."

So today, we wish our littlest lamb the happiest of birthdays! May His grace always fill her. May she always love His Word. May she be a doer of His Word and not just a hearer only. May He keep her heart, mind and body pure before Him as she lives according to His Word. May the same be true for her future husband. May He daily establish and bless the work of her heart and hands. May she abide in Him daily. May He keep her on the narrow road that leads to life. May she run this race with endurance and may she finish it well. May she seek to honor God. May He bless her relationship with Him, with family and with friends. May He keep her healthy, safe and strong. May the things of this world be distasteful to her. May she hunger and thirst for the things of God. May He always seasons her words with His grace and peace. May she bring the Gospel to all those around her. May her heart for missions continue to grow. May she love the Lord our God with all of her heart, all of her mind and all of her soul all the days of her life. This is our prayer for our littlest lamb...and her big lamb brother, too!

We love you, Gabrielle!
Happy 8th Birthday!

"My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father's hand.
I and the Father are one."
John 10:27-30
