Savoring His Word 2009 - I Did It!!

"...those who have tasted the goodness of the word of God..."
Hebrews 6:5

To quote my friend, Wendy Pope, who inspired me to read through the entire Word of God in 2009: "WOO HOO"!!!!!!! I did it!!!!!!! I read through the NIV Chronological One-Year Bible in 2009.

Now, truly I give God the glory! His Word is my delight because I have tasted the goodness of the Word of God. His Word is truth. It is living and active. It is boundless in life, encouragement and conviction. "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

There were a few times when I got behind by a couple of days. And I'll admit I quickly glanced over some of the hard-to-pronounce names in the book of Numbers and in genealogies throughout the Bible rather than reading them slowly. But, by His grace, I read through the entire Word in 2009.

If you've never done this, I encourage you to do it in 2010! Wendy is doing it again in 2010! Trust Him to speak to your heart through His word. "Then He opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures..." Luke 24:45

I am excited now for 2010 and what my daily morning quiet time with Him in His Word will reveal to my heart. I am trusting Him to transform my heart and to bring forth fruit as I abide in Him. He will convict and cleanse. He will encourage and guide. He will give new life. May all of us continually taste, savor and steep ourselves in the goodness of His Word!

"The Spirit of truth...will guide you into all truth." John 16:12

"Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth." John 17:17

Enjoying The Warm Afterglow of Christmas

"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:9-10
We are thankful for a warm and wonderful Christmas. We began our celebration Christmas Eve by attending a beautiful worship and communion service at our church. At home that evening, Jim read Luke 2 to our cherubs, and I read "Twas The Night Before Christmas" (just for fun). We had a cozy Christmas morning at home and then went to my Mom's (Nan Nan) for Christmas afternoon and evening. We always sleep over her house Christmas night. My sister and I get up early for some Christmas clearance sales the day after Christmas. We treasure all of these traditions.
Here are a few pictures.
(These pictures are not necessarily in order.)
Daddy & Mommy don't label the gifts. Each Christmas morning, the children find a large swatch of their wrapping paper outside their bedroom doors. They know which gifts are theirs by the wrapping paper.

The huge hit gift -- stilts from Uncle PJ.

At Nan Nan's house every Christmas afternoon and evening!

The cherubs are just a little excited over the Wii.

Christmas Quiche by moi. A favorite Christmas morning tradition!

Aunt Anne and the cherubs. She gave them an exciting gift of snow tubing!

We hope you are enjoying a warm afterglow of celebrating our Savior's birth!

Manger to Majesty - We Celebrate His Birth!

"...the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger..." Luke 2:6-7

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." Hebrews 1:3
Merry Christmas!

The Children Are Nestled All Snug In Their Beds

"...time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.' Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.' When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 'Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.'
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told." (Luke 2:6-20)
Merry Christmas!

"Christmas Is Every Day For Me, Mommy!"

"...God has poured out His love into our hearts..."
Romans 5:5

A few weeks ago while I was putting Gabrielle to bed, she asked me, "How many more day until Christmas, Mommy?" After doing some quick subtraction in my head, I answered her question. She smiled wide with excitement. Then, she pulled me close, squeezed me tight and said, "Christmas is every day for me, Mommy, because you love me."

Yes indeedy, I do believe I unwrapped a Christmas gift early that night while nestling my daughter all snug in her bed.
As she began drifting off to sleep to dream of sugar plums dancing in her head, I whispered in her ear, "Christmas is every day for anyone who has received the most wonderful gift into their hearts -- the love and forgiveness of our Savior Jesus." Thankfully, our precious children have. May they walk in and with the Truth every moment of their lives. "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the Truth." 3 John 1:4
Here are a few (OK, several) pictures of one of our precious gifts named "Gabrielle" this Christmas season.

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
2 Corinthians 9:15

Wash Me In The Water of God's Word

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
Ephesian 5:25-27

To me, there is nothing sweeter, nothing more precious, nothing more eternally significant my husband can do for me than to wash me in the water of God's Word.

God's Gift of Grace

" much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!" Romans 5:15

We'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a truly blessed Christmas season. God's gift of grace through Jesus overwhelms us every day. His grace, mercy, forgiveness and perfect love are truly unspeakable gifts. Our Savior's lavish love hushes our hearts in utter humility. During this Christmas season, our blog posts here will be few, but our prayers and thoughts for you are many. Merry Christmas from our family to yours! May His grace overflow to you and yours!

Honoring Our Husbands

"For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior." Ephesians 5:23

Wives, let's share ways the Lord has put on our hearts to honor our husbands as the head of our home. Pop on over to Titus 2 In Action. Let's spur one another on!
