For many weeks, I have been waking up automatically every morning at 4:44. The first few times it happened, I didn't think much about it. But after it happened several times, I started wondering if God was trying to tell me something. That might sound strange, but it seemed like every time I looked at the clock it was 4:44.
I started wondering, is there something I need to learn or hear? I am 44 years old. My husband is 44 years old. The 44th president of the United States was recently inaugurated. Hmmm...doesn't seem too significant.
I usually get up in the morning between 5:00 and 5:15 to have my quiet time with the Lord. Recently, a sweet woman at church has told me she gets up daily at 4:30 for her prayer and quiet time, and she said she has been praying for me that I get up earlier than I do for my prayer and quiet time. (OK, she is very sweet, and I am receiving that encouragement as a blessing and not an insult!) So, is 4:44 a wake up call in response to her prayers?
I went to God's Word. These are all the scriptures that have a chapter 4 with a verse 44.
"Now this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel." Deut. 4:44 (NKJV)
"So he set it before them; and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD." 2 Kings 4:44 (NKJV)
"And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee." Luke 4:44 (NKJV)
"For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country." John 4:44 (NKJV)
I don't want to nonchalantly disregard the repeated "4:44" wakes ups if there is something significant for me to learn or hear. I think I will begin rising up earlier for more prayer and quiet time in the morning. Meeting and dwelling with the Lord in the morning is my favorite, most important part of my day. So, when I awaken at 4:44, I'll be getting my body out of bed, by His strength, instead of rolling over for a few more minutes.
