Mashed and Meshed

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."
Col. 3:12, 14
I love Sunday afternoons with the family. As we all linger, play and relax at home, I am contently busy in the kitchen preparing Sunday dinner. Yesterday afternoon, I did one of my favorite things. One of those "simple pleasures" of life. What? I made mashed potatoes with my husband, Jim! Yes, mashing potatoes with Jim is one of those things I love to do...we work together in harmony without needing to speak, knowing the roles of each other and just what to do.
After I boil the red-skin potatoes (leaving most of the red skin on!), I drain them. While the taters are still very hot, Jim uses the hand-held masher to mash the potatoes while I toss in the softened butter (yes butter...and generous amounts of it!). Then I sprinkle the taters with salt and pepper while he is still mashing. Only four ingredients go into this decadent side dish, which we treat our family to a few times each autumn and winter.
Jim's mashing gets the potatoes perfectly smooth. After he mashes a while, we each take a spoonful for the taste test....and a few additional spoonfuls "just to be sure". I love making mashed potatoes with my man, with whom God has meshed my heart. We are bonded together in Him. When we are clothing ourselves in God's wardrobe of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and love, we are meshed together in perfect unity. Kind of like a tasty and decadent side dish of mashed potatoes!
Now, as my dear friend, Laura Stokes, would say "Pour Some Gravy On It!"

It's a wonderful time of year isn't it?? We had mashed potatoes on Saturday. My hubs didn't help to make them only eat them. :)

Great post Sharon--now I am hungry!

What a sweet tribute to your husband (complete with gravy). Be blessed! (Sounds like you already are).
